Government of Ghana To Bring Back Road Tolls But In A Digitized Form
As of 2021, Ghana was collecting about GHC 39 million monthly in road tolls. Government however abolished road tolls in 2022 citing pollution. Fast forward to 2024 and the Roads Ministry is looking to bring back road tolls but a digitized one crying that the suspension of tolls had left a fiscal gap in the funds needed to fix deteriorating roads across the country.
Meet Margins Group, The Company Behind The Ghana Card
The Ghana Card is a national identity card that was launched in 2017 by the National Identification Authority (NIA) in collaboration with Identity Management Systems (IMS), a subsidiary of Margins Group, a leading provider of identity solutions in Ghana. According to the contract, the Margins Group will receive $1.2 billion over 15 years for the delivery of 89 million cards, as well as the provision of related equipment, software, and services. Ghana’s National Road and Safety Authority To Roll Out Speed Camera Technology By Mid-Year
Ghana’s National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) will roll out traffic tech, it’s technology-driven road traffic enforcement initiative by the end of the second quarter of 2024. The automated speed limit enforcement programme will be operationalized using cameras that have been mounted at vantage points on the country’s roads and highways. This is not the first time that the NRSA has tried to implement a speed limit project
NIC launches Customer Complaints Portal to address unresolved insurance claims grievances
The insurance sector is often ranked lowest in customer service delivery largely as a result of the lackadaisical attitude of some insurance companies when it comes to the payment of claims. The NIC in a bid to Resolve challenges associated with insurance claims has launched a Complaints Management System (CMS) on it’s websitenwith support from GIZ Ghana.
Ghana to Announce Vendor For Its Nuclear Power Plant By End of 2024
Ghana is looking at a large reactor (1,000-1,200 megawatts) and a small modular reactor (about 300 megawatts) for its nuclear power plant, which is to serve as a clean baseload for the country’s industrialisation agenda. The Ministry of Energy has announced that it will select a vendor for the establishment of the country’s first nuclear power plant by the end of 2024, stated that the government plans to get about 46% from the private sector to help with the country’s $561.9 billion financing requirement for energy transition by 2030.

The Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC) of Ashesi University and the German Development Cooperation – implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – today announced a new partnership worth about EUR 1.2 million for the realisation of the Business Incubation and Acceleration Programme for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to promote economic growth. The focus is on mitigating climate change and using climate-friendly technologies for economic growth which is part of the “Ghana Green Jobs Strategy” aiming to create over one million jobs by 2030.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands with support from Ghanaian Corporate Partners will continue to provide access to up to 50,000 euros and business development support to exceptional Ghanaian youth-led businesses through the Orange Corners Ghana Initiative, a programme aimed at providing access to financial resources and elevated entrepreneurial capacity necessary to scale their businesses and continue their path to success.

African Science Academy to hold Math Masterclass in Eastern, Greater Accra regions
With support from Tullow Oil, and in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, The 10th and 11th editions of the African Science Academy (ASA) Math Masterclass is set to hold in the Eastern and Greater-Accra Regions of Ghana on March 12 and 14, 2024. The ASA Maths Masterclass is an educational symposium designed to share and broaden the knowledge of Senior High School (SHS) Mathematics teachers. The selected teachers to be in attendance will share, discuss and widen their scope of knowledge in addition to coming up with more engaging and practical ways of teaching Mathematics.
Agriconnect Sparks Youth Interest In Tech-Driven Agriculture
AgriConnect Ghana, a collaboration between the SOFTtribe and the Mastercard Foundation, began delivering laptop computers to tertiary students including those in the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This forms part of the initiative to focus on education and training to enable the youth, including young women and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are interested in agriculture to benefit from new and emerging opportunities in the industry.
