Vetting of Digital Technology Minister - Ghana Aims to Become Africa’s AI Hub by 2028
Ghana’s Minister designate for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, during his vetting spoke to certain issues within the sector including high cost of data, SIM reregistration, cybersecurity and Ghana’s ambition to become Africa’s AI Hub by 2028.
In his words, “Ghana will become the Centre and the hub of Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, cyber security, data analytics and data processing on the continent in the next four years, we’re going to take the current AI strategy developed by the previous government, review it and make it fit for purpose."

Ghana and Rwanda working on cross-border Fintech integration
Ghana and Rwanda are working to link their national payment systems and establish a fintech licensing passport system, Rwanda’s central bank governor. The initiative, reportedly backed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, will officially launch at the Inclusive FinTech Forum in Kigali from February 24-26, 2024, which will be attended by industry leaders and regulators from Ghana.

RAIL-KNUST Holds Inaugural Robotics Challenge
The Responsible Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (RAIL-KNUST) has held its maiden Robotics Challenge.
The event was designed to inspire innovation and problem-solving by having participants apply the skills they have acquired to address real-world challenges. Participants underwent a year-long training program focused on Python programming and Arduino coding. They were tasked with identifying and solving problems in critical areas such as health, agriculture, energy, and education.
Telecel DigiTech Academy expands to 13 Schools with Cutting-edge STEM Education
Following the success of the pilot run last academic term at Ho’s St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Volta Region, Telecel has expanded it’s DigiTech Academy to thirteen schools in five regions across the country.
With its focus on hands-on learning, innovation, and real-world skills, the programme, runs alongside the standard school curriculum, and is designed to practically immerse students into the world of digital technology, with a special focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), coding and programming.
