Ghana To Begin Issuing Chip-Embedded Passports From April 28
Ghana will officially begin issuing chip-embedded passports, also known as e-passports, from Monday, April 28, 2025, as part of efforts to modernize the country’s passport system and improve travel document security. E-passports are already widely used across many countries.
MTN Cyberattack: Data Protection Commission To Crack The Whip If Negligence Is Found
The MTN Group on Thursday April 24th reported that it has been hit by a cybersecurity attack.
Ghana’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has said that it is closely monitoring the incident, and if it discovers that the personal information of any Ghanaian citizen or resident has been compromised as a result of negligence, the Commission will not hesitate to invoke its enforcement powers under Act 843 to hold MTN Ghana and/or MTN Group accountable.
Ghana Set to Regulate Crypto by September 2025
Crypto activity in Ghana has grown rapidly in recent years despite a lack of legal clarity. The Bank of Ghana (BoG) is preparing to begin regulation of cryptocurrency and related platforms by the end of September 2025, according to Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama. This move hinges on the passage of the Virtual Asset Providers Act, which will give the BoG legal authority to license and regulate crypto platforms

Telecel Criticized For Giving Short Notice Of Broadband Price Hikes
Telecel Ghana has issued a short-notice announcing an adjustment in its broadband subscription prices, notifying customers via SMS that the new prices will take effect on Monday, April 28, 2025. Consumer advocacy firm, CUTS International has expressed concern about the three-days notice, describing it as a last-minute communication, which reflects an emerging trend within Ghana’s telecommunications sector, where service providers frequently give consumers limited notice ahead of price changes.

Spotify has expanded it’s AI Playlist feature to more Countries, including Ghana. The feature allows users to create playlists by engineering a prompt.
Facebook Facing Lawsuits In Ghana Over Impact Of Extreme Content On Moderators
Lawyers are gearing up for court action against a company contracted by Meta after meeting moderators at a facility in Ghana that is understood to employ about 150 people. Moderators are required to review distressing and often brutal pictures and videos such as a person being skinned alive, a woman being beheaded, child abuse etc. to establish whether they should be removed from Meta’s platforms.
The lawsuits is over the woeful compensation and psychological distress experienced by content moderators.

Schlumberger Foundation Awards 100+ Grants To Women For Advanced STEM Studies
The Schlumberger Foundation has awarded grants to some 143 distinguished women to pursue advanced studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at leading institutions worldwide.Ten women from Ghana are among the recipients selected for the 2025-2026 Fellowship.
First Cohort Of Pupils Graduate From Telecel Digitech Academy
After twelve weeks of immersive and hands-on learning of robotics, coding, website designing and computer programming, a total of 700 students from 38 schools across six regions have successfully completed their training as part of the Telecel Digitech Academy. The next cohort of the Digitech Academy will cover one thousand students in ten regions.
