Government To Sanction Telcos Over Poor Services
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has met with the CEOs and technical teams of MTN, Telecel, and AT where he issued a warning to all mobile network operators in the country to improve the quality of services by December 31, 2025, or face unprecedented financial penalties, with a substantial portion of these fines directly compensating affected customers.
The meeting featured a presentation by the National Communications Authority (NCA), on the alarming inconsistencies in service delivery across all three providers.

Ghana, UAE Sign $1bn Deal To Build Tech Hub
Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a technology and innovations hub to boost the country’s digital transformation and position her as a leading centre for artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
The initial phase of the one billion dollar project, fully funded by the PCFC, in partnership with leading AI firms behind Dubai’s AI transformation, will involve the development of a 25 square kilometre (Km2) site in Ningo-Prampram with the government providing the land for the initiative
Digital Road Tolls to Replace Physical Booths
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s plan to replace traditional tollbooths with a fully automated road toll collection system, as outlined in the 2025 Economic Policy and Budget Statement.
Speaking about the new approach, President Mahama explained that the government is exploring a digital system that would link each vehicle to its owner’s Ghana Card, allowing toll charges to be billed directly to the owner’s mobile money or bank account.

Scancom Plc Updates Shareholders on MobileMoney Restructuring at EGM
Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) has successfully held an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to update shareholders on the ongoing localisation and restructuring of its wholly owned subsidiary mobile money business, MobileMoney Limited (MML).
Under the restructuring, a new company, New FinCo, will be formed to take over and operate the MoMo business. A trust will also be set up to hold shares on behalf of the minority shareholders. Shareholders were assured that their investments in the MoMo business remained secure.

Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations is introducing a “Shark Tank”-style pitching model as part of its Digital Tech Development Fund to help startups secure funding and business advisory support.
Startups will pitch their ideas in a competitive format, similar to the popular Shark Tank show. Advisory firms—including KPMG—will select promising startups to support with strategic and business development services.
