Banking Consultant, Dr Richmond Atuahene, speaking against the backdrop of recent foreign exchange violations by traditional banks, has submitted that Ghana's Foreign Exchange Act needs urgent revision to account for the growing influence of financial technology companies in the currency market, explaining that the current regulatory framework was outdated, having been drafted before the emergence of fintech companies as major players in Ghana's financial sector.

Ghana Partners with The Gambia to Implement Free Roaming Initiative
Just like it did with Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Benin, the National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana, in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and mobile network operators (MNOs), is advancing talks with stakeholders in The Gambia to implement the ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative, an effort seeks to reduce telecom costs for citizens traveling between Ghana and The Gambia.

Positive Technologies, a Russian information security research company has analyzed the current cyber threats on the African continent for 2023–2024 noting that there has been a rise in attacks on the government sector and financial companies and in Ghana, like the rest of Africa, government and financial institutions make up 29% and 22% of all successful attacks on organisations, respectively.

7 Finalists Announced for the 2024 MEST Africa Challenge Finale
MEST Africa has announced seven finalists for the 2024 MEST Africa Challenge (MAC) finale-Africa’s premier pitch competition for emerging tech entrepreneurs, this year’s focus being Agri-tech. MEST will provide the winning startup with an investment capital of $50,000, coaching, and access to a global network of resources and partners as they build and scale successful businesses that add value to African economies and livelihoods.
MEST Africa and Mastercard Foundation Celebrate Fellows At 2024 EdTech Fellowship Demo Day
MEST Africa and the Mastercard Foundation has held a Demo Day for the 2024 EdTech Fellows which include eCampus, Qknow Edtech, Firefly IO and 7 others. The event celebrated the fellows’ innovative solutions which have the potential to redefine education across Ghana and announced the opening of applications for the 2nd cohort of the EdTech Fellowship program, calling on aspiring African entrepreneurs passionate about transforming education through technology are encouraged to apply.
Ghana’s Medtrack Selected For The Timbuktoo Healthtech Accelerator.
MedTrack has been selected as part of the first cohort of the Timbuktoo HealthTech Accelerator. Selected from over 957 applicants, the cohort features 40 young innovators from 21 African countries. MedTrack is enabling seamless collaboration among healthcare providers with its decentralized health information system, linking patient data to national biometric IDs.

GCTU signs MoU for Microsoft IT Certification Programs in Ghana
Ghana Communication Technology University(GCTU), has signed an MOU with Microsoft Skills for Jobs, Osoo Africa, and Raycom Technologies to bring the Microsoft Skills for Jobs Microdegree Programme to Ghana.The program, funded by the European Union will facilitate training, certification, and job placement opportunities in high-demand areas like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and coding.

QKnow Edtech has announced a strategic partnership with the University of Colorado’s PhET Interactive Simulations to enhance STEM education in Ghana.
